Dollymount win battle with Clontarf.
Dollymount 5 v 3 Clontarf
Dollymount started the brighter, playing the ball on the ground with good crisp passing.
A slip by Glenn,on the 13th minute let clontarf through, even though Glenn got back to make a tackle, the finishing was good, giving Jez no chance.
Dollymount had numerous chances to get back into the game but the chances were squandered
On 29 minute Quinner split the clontarf defence with a wonder pass that Craig ran on with into the box and beat the keeper who got a hand to the ball but couldn't stop the equaliser.
A minute later Tom put another excellent pass through to Jonner which he coolly finished.
3 minutes later a Clontarf forward, looking offside, broke through and buried it. 2-2. It stayed that way till 1/2 time even though Dollymount did make more scoring chances before the break.
Dollymount started the 2nd half the way the finished the first, attacking and passing the ball around. This passing started in the defence with Jez and the defence of Steve Fionn Glenn and Jay all passing the ball up to the centre of midfield where Tom Doc and Craig dominated proceedings. They in turn kept the passing going to the forward line of Gar, Jonner and Quinner.
15 mins of pressure paid off, when the ball came out of the clontarf defence to Craig 35 metres out, he had time to settle and unleashed a thunder bolt, from the second the ball left his foot it was distent for the back of the net, lifting the net pegs out of the ground.
A Clontarf midfielder made a break from the half way line and into the box, with Steve and Fionn chasing and catching him , but he held them off and with Jez coming out to narrow his angles he still managed to score.
But Dollymount never gave up chasing victory . Jonner, with 3 minutes remaining, won possession on the right wing, ran by a couple of defenders and into the corner, Fionn having switch to the right back position when Steve went off with an injury( being replaced by Gar the manager) had backed up play & Jonner picked him out. Fionn's cross was blocked by a Clontarf arm and the ref had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. The regular penalty taker DOC, did his usual and passed the ball into net, bringing his total to double figures for the season so far.
It was a bit nervy for Dollymount as the Ref had added on 6 minutes extra time. The game was finally put to bed when clontarf had a throw-in but fouled, giving the possession to Dollymount and a quick throw to Gar and off he went towards goal with a smile on his face knowing he was finally going to score after getting himself into so many scoring positions earlier in the game, he duly obliged, calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner. He deserved his goal after all his hard work, but every player deserved a goal if it came to effort they put in.
Substitutes Mick Conor and James even though not getting a run out, gave great support and encouragement to the Dollymont team
